Five more illnesses have been tied to a Mexican restaurant in Vancouver, Washington that is thought to be the source of a Salmonella outbreak, bringing the estimated number of people sickened from 16 to 21. Since the Clark County Health Department named On the Border restaurant as the likely outbreak source Tuesday, the agency has received several calls from others who fell ill after consuming food from the eatery, according to The Columbian. CCHD has confirmed that 11 of the 21 illnesses are part of the outbreak, and are investigating a further 10 cases, up from the five additional cases it was investigating Tuesday. All outbreak victims are adults; two have been hospitalized for dehydration. Clark County health officials closed the restaurant Tuesday morning and continue to look into the source of contamination. As of Wednesday, 38 of the restaurant's 39 employees had picked up Salmonella testing kits, reports The Columbian. CCHD advises those who ate at On the Border between September 20 and October 8 and are experiencing symptoms of a Salmonella infection – including diarrhea, fever, chills, nausea and occasional vomiting – to contact their healthcare provider. © Food Safety NewsMore Headlines from Foodborne Illness Investigations |
