IDDBA announces board officers, scholarships, '13 show dates

The International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association (IDDBA) elected the 2012-2013 officers and board of directors at its Annual Business Meeting, held recently in Chicago. Voni Woods, senior director of deli, Giant Eagle Inc., Harmony, Pa., was elected as IDDBA's 49th president, succeeding Steve Beekhuizen, senior vice president of sales, Dawn Food Products, who will continue to serve on the board of directors. Woods has served on the board of directors since 2006. John Cheesman, vice president sales-corporate accounts, Maplehurst Bakeries, LLC, Brownsburg, Ind., also was named treasurer.

Other board members in the bakery industry continuing to serve are: Greg Schlafer, vice president/general manager of bakeries and foodservice division, General Mills Bakeries & Foodservice; and John Wellenzohn, vice president, sales, ISB division, Rich Products Corp.

IDDBA also announced the winners of its scholarship for employees of IDDBA member companies. IDDBA recently awarded $26,350 worth of scholarship to employees from 27 member companies, including Central Market, Tom Thumb, Bakery Crafts, Publix, Food City, Supervalu, Safeway, Sam's Club, Hy-Vee, HEB, Wegmans, Randall's, Save Mart, Schnucks, Specialty Bakers, Kings Supermarkets and Cub Support Store.

In addition, IDDBA unveiled the dates and location of its 49th annual seminar and expo. Dairy-Deli-Bake 2013 will be held in Orlando, Fla., at the Orange County Convention Center June 2 through 4. The theme for the show is Foodie All-Stars. IDDBA expects more than 8,500 buyers, merchandisers, executives and allied professionals to attend next year's three-day event.
