King Arthur Flour completes expansion

Last month King Arthur Flour hosted the grand opening of its new bakery café, baker's store and education center in Norwich, Vt.

"We started this project over two years ago, but the journey began long before that. Our presence in Norwich has always been about bringing people together to enjoy all things baking," Karen Colberg, a vice president and general manager at King Arthur Flour, said in a press release. "In designing and building our new campus, we wanted to create a space that remained true to our brand values of authenticity, quality, and community, where visitors feel inspired and welcome to explore, learn about our history, enjoy our artisan breads and sandwiches, and feel our passion for baking. We're excited to celebrate the completion of this journey with baking friends from near and far at our grand opening."

King Arthur Flour broke ground on its $10 million expansion in June 2011 and completed construction on its new baking destination on schedule in July 2012.

About 10,000 people attended the grand opening festivities, which took place between Sept. 20 and 23. The event kicked off Sept. 23 with a reception that included live music, handcrafted bread and pizzas and local beer. Throughout the weekend, King Arthur Flour also hosted tours of the new facilities and cookbook signings, raffled off merchandise and held hands-on baking demonstrations.

Author/blogger/pastry chef Gesine Bullock-Prado, KAF head baker and certified master baker Jeffrey Hammelman and author/blogger Dede Wilson were among the bakers who demonstrated product during the event.
