Recall: Two Listeria Illnesses Associated With New York-Style Nova Lox

By News Desk | November 10, 2012 Two people stricken with Listeria monocytogenes have caused Spence & Co Ltd to recall New York-Style Nova Lox that were distributed in several parties in numerous states. The recalled product is a 4 oz. package with a Code/Lot number 9720704. An estimated 1,563 packages are involved. Distribution in the Detroit area and the states of Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey, and Massachusetts occurred between Sept. 26, 2012 and Oct. 5, 2012. Additional distribution through Earthfare occurred in Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida and Oho between Sept. 28, 2012 and Oct. 5, 2012. Shawa Supermarkets sold the Lox in New England, beginning Sept. 28, 2012 with an expiration date of Oct. 21, 2012. Roche Bros distributed the recalled product in Massachusetts beginning Sept. 26, 2912 with an expiration date of Oct. 19, 2012. Finally Fresh Markets sold the Lox at retail in Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Illinois, Alabama, Arizona, Ohio, Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia, Indiana, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Listeria monocytogenes is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
