A New York food maker is recalling its herring product because the fish may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Brooklyn, NY-based Four Seasons Dairy Inc. issued a voluntary recall of its Fillet Atlantic Recipe in Oil Wednesday after Listeria was discovered in a sample of the product taken by the New York Department of Agriculture and Markets. Sale of the product has since been suspended, according to the recall announcement. Product subject to this recall was sold at retail locations around New York City in a 1 lb/ 500 g clear plastic tub with a white plastic lid. The expiration date of 12/11/12 can be found on the label on the bottom of the package. Consumers who purchased the recalled fish are urged to discard it or return it to its place of purchase. Listeria infection can be particularly serious in pregnant women, elderly people and those with compromised immune systems. Pregnant women risk miscarriage or stillbirth. Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. If you think you may have contracted a Listeria infection, contact your healthcare provider. © Food Safety NewsMore Headlines from Food Recalls |
